In my experience of an oceanography cruise, there is so much to view and learn all at one time. Collecting info, recording data, and definitely participating in employing various things to collect the info was really interesting. Nikon bottle of wine, Refractometer, Secchi Disk, Plankton and Otter-Trawl, to name a view, were the different instruments all of us used to acquire the data we want as the science crew. In analyzing the various aspect of the ocean, the Ponar was your most interesting object we all used. That appeared to be this kind of big hefty object that was chucked into the sea and taken back up and opened for review. Nevertheless , that is simply part of the explanation of a Ponar, it is more that and is very important in collecting ocean sediments.
A Ponar is a unit that is used to seize sediments at the bottom of the ocean to be collected and examined. The brand Ponar, in line with the Grand Area State University manual, comes from the Great Ponds scientists, Charles E. Power, Robert A. Ogle, Jr., Vincent E. Noble, David C. Ayers, and Toby Roberson. According to the Grand Area State University manual, it states that " the Ponar grab sampler is definitely lowered towards the bottom in which contact with the underside sets off the trigger and a strong planting season snaps the jaws shut trapping an example of the lower part inside. ” It is kept together by simply two crucial pins, the safety pin and the spring pin. These pins are very important because they make sure that the Ponar clears and closes securely in order that sediments could be collected properly. This equipment was incredibly heavy together to be thrown into the marine by the ship's crew.
Ponars collect sediments including sand, gravel, clay, and grains. The Ponar allows science deck hands to determine the grain size, color, sorting, roundness, composition, and shells/bio materials. On the luxury cruise, we collected fine materials size fine sand. In the Grand Valley University or college manual, sediments can be...
